IQHA Trail Ride Program

2008 IQHA Annual Trail Ride

Can't attend the IQHA/AQHA Charity Trail Ride?

There are still ways you can help.

We are seeking items to auction at the ride or monetary donations to help offset the cost of the ride.

There are over 6,000+ individuals of all ages and abilities currently on waiting lists at NARHA Member Centers hoping to experience the benefits of equine assisted activities.

Through the proceeds of our 2008 trail ride, IQHA was able to raise over $10,000-almost half of which was raised through the charity auction! The future success of our charity ride can only be accomplished through donations from individuals and businesses.

You can have your name, or company name added to our video. Or perhaps you have a special equine friend that we can mention on the video.

Overview of the AQHA Program:
AQHA's Ride Program began in 1997 and annually hosts some 70 rides throughout the world. All horse enthusiasts are welcome to participate. A portion of the proceeds benefit the American Quarter Horse Foundation and a local charity selected by the host affiliates.

The Ride Program is a great way to have fun on horseback, meet people from all aspects of the equine industry who love horses and riding and support many worthy causes. Rider's will explore private ranches and some of the world's most scenic public lands. See the AQHA website for more information.

IQHA member Don Swygart (pictured) has won the top Passport award from AQHA. He has attended 20 AQHA rides and will be receiving a trophy from AQHA.

Below is Don's mare Kate. The picture was taken at the Biltmore Estate ride last summer. She is wearing the saddle he won for attending the most AQHA trail rides in 2003.

Highlights of the IQHA HORSEBACK RIDING/DRIVING PROGRAM

1. To participate in the IQHA Horseback Riding/Driving Program you must be a member of the Indiana Quarter Horse Association. An active membership must be maintained during the time that you accumulate hours.

2. There is a one time $20.00 enrollment fee.

3. The horse you ride or drive in this program must be registered in the American Quarter Horse Association. You do not have to own the horse. You may accumulate hours in IQHA's program at the same time you are accumulating hours in the AQHA Horseback Riding Program, if you are enrolled in both.

4. The AQHA registered name and registration number of the horse must be on the log sheets.

5. You may ride more than one quarter horse. Separate log sheets must be kept for each horse.

6. All time logged is on a one horse - one rider basis and is on the honor system. An accurate record of the time you actually spend riding or driving must be reported on your official IQHA Horseback Riding Program Log Sheets (copies of AQHA log sheets will be accepted). Your hours carry over from year to year as long as you maintain your IQHA membership.

7. Members who log time on a State or National trail (as recognized by the State of Indiana or US National Parks) earn bonus hours. For every hour you spend riding or driving in a State or National Park you receive one bonus hour. (Double hours). You must name the park in your log. The coordinator awards the bonus hours.

8. The Indiana Quarter Horse Association will recognize achievement winners at its Annual Awards Banquet

The following levels will be recognized:

50 Hours - Certificate
100 Hours - Certificate
250 Hours - Certificate
500 Hours- Gift Certificate
