Cameron and her family live in Lincoln Park
on the North side of Chicago, Illinois. She
is 12 years old and attends 6th grade at the
University of Chicago Laboratory Schools in
Hyde Park near the University of Chicago where
her mother, Diane Yamada is The Head of the
Gynecologic Cancer Surgery Program. Cameron's
father, Dave Harter, is an emergency room physician
at Elmhurst Hospital and her baby sister, Keira,
who is 18 months old is an up and coming equestrian.
At 5 years old, Cameron began riding in
2001 with lessons at Peak Performance Horses
in Hebron, Indiana. Her passion and the talent
for this sport convinced her parents to purchase
a 3 year old gelding called "Terms Me
On" (nick named "Mr. Peepers) bred,
raised and trained by Peak Performance Horses.
Well, it was love at first sight! Thus, Cameron's
show career began. She joined the IQHA Show
Program in 2004, had multiple successES over
the years and finished her 2007 show season
with a 1st Place in 13 & Under Equitation,
Reserve High Point Novice Youth All Around,
2nd Place Novice Youth HUS, 3rd Place 13 & Under
HUS, 3rd Place Novice Youth Equitation, 3rd
Place Novice Yought Western Pleasure, 6th Place
13 & Under Western Pleasure, and 9th Place
13 & Under Showmanship. Cameron's accomplishments
also include a Youth ROM, 15.5 Youth Points,
55 Novice Youth Points and 3 Open Performance
Points.
Cameron made her first trip to the Quarter Horse Congress in 2007 and
had an outstanding performance in the Equitation 11 & Under and placed
7th out of 43 entries.
Cameron's also likes playing her Game Boy, preferably
with Christine Beckmann (her show buddy and
best friend). Her athletic skills are
quite good and the boys at her school like having
her on their field hockey and soccer teams. She
also enjoys doing outdoor things with her dad-gardening,
fishing, canoeing and archery. Her favorite class
in school is humanities but she has become quite
good at math as well. And, of course, she loves
criticizing her mom’s riding capabilities/inabilities.
